Best Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) in Hyderabad - STAR Hospitals

Our rheumatologists diagnose and attend to rheumatic cases like arthritis, which damage the joints and connective tissue. Rheumatic disease is a rare condition where the immune system of the body mistakenly attacks the body tissue. This ultimately leads to painful swelling in the joints of the body such as elbow joints, finger joints etc., and at times can lead to bone erosion too. We also treat cases such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthropathy (arthritis affecting the spine), and scleroderma.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) conditions treated by us

RA increases your chances of being affected by the following conditions which are also treated by us:

  • Osteoporosis. For some patients the increased use of medication to treat RA can lead to developing osteoporosis, which weakens the bones exposing it to more possibility of fracture.
  • Rheumatoid nodules: These are hard bumps forming around joints like the elbow, heart and lungs.
  • Dry eyes and mouth: Sjogren's syndrome is a side effect of RA which leads to excess dryness of eyes and mouth.
  • Infections: Usually the strong medication used for RA weakens our immune system, exposing us to infections such as pneumonia, shingles and COVID-19.
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome: This is a condition where RA affects the area around the wrist. It usually compresses the nerves around the fingers and hands, leaving it severely damaged.
  • Heart problems: RA is one of the causes for blocks in arteries and swollen sacs near the heart. These are life-threatening conditions that need immediate treatment.
  • Lung disease: People affected with RA are exposed to injuries around the lung tissues, which can eventually lead to breathlessness.
  • Lymphoma: RA increases the risk of blood cancers that develop in the lymph system.
