Weight Loss Treatments and Procedures:-

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAGB):

Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding (LAGB) is a type of weight-loss surgery in which an adjustable band is placed around the top part of the stomach. This reduces the size of the stomach pouch which makes you feel full soon after eating less food. This best part of this surgery is that it will help you lose weight without altering your ability to absorb calories and nutrients.

Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve Resection (LGSR):

In Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve Resection (LGSR), a major portion of stomach is removed along the major curve of the stomach leaving a narrow gastric tube. No intestines are removed or bypassed during this process. The procedure permanently reduces the size of the stomach, thereby, reducing the appetite-regulating hormone, ghrelin. However, it does not affect the person’s ability to absorb calories and nutrients.

Roux-en-y Gastric Bypass (RYGB):

RYGB is a type of weight-loss surgery in which a small pouch from the stomach is separated and is directly connected to a newly created pouch to the small intestine. After Gastric Bypass, the swallowed food enters the small pouch of stomach and then directly into the small intestine, thereby, bypassing a major part of your stomach and the first section of your small intestine.

This is one of the frequently performed bariatric surgery and is usually advised when diet and exercise do not show expected results or when you have serious health related issues because of your weight.

Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch:

A Biliopancreatic Diversion with duodenal switch (BPD/DS) is one of the infrequent weight-loss surgical procedure. Here, a major portion of stomach is removed as in gastric sleeve surgery, leaving a smaller tube-shaped stomach, that connects directly to the final segment of the small intestine. This way the food passes through the small portion of the stomach and passes directly into the final segment of small intestine and into the colon. A BPD/DS surgery not just limits the quantity of food intake but also reduces the absorption of nutrients, including proteins and fats. Therefore, this procedure is generally advised only in rare cases where the body mass index (BMI) is greater than 50.
